Vinyl and metal corner bead have distinct benefits. Both are good options, but choosing the right one depends on the specific demands of your project. Corner bead made from vinyl is lightweight, which can make it easier to cut and handle. It's also flexible, making it ideal for curved surfaces. Its rust-proof quality makes it the preferred choice for wet areas or humid climates, where moisture resistance is essential. On the other hand, metal corner bead is known for its superior impact resistance, making it an excellent choice for high-traffic areas where durability is a priority. However, it is best suited for applications requiring crisp, straight edges, as it doesn't offer the flexibility of vinyl.
To install vinyl corner bead, begin by applying drywall trim adhesive to both sides of the wall corner. Then, apply adhesive to the inside of both bead flanges. Next, immediately position the corner bead and apply even pressure to both flanges along the entire length of the bead to ensure a strong bond. A drywall taping knife can help with this process. Allow the adhesive to fully dry, and then you're ready to apply drywall compound for a smooth, professional finish.
